i hope this video is helpful. not just as advice for future applicants, but for those who already survived the process. college admissions are a messy process at the elite level, so i hope this video can be help reframe your mindset. colleges can’t tell you whether you are “good enough.” you will always be a valuable and worthy human.
getting rejected doesn’t make you lesser than. getting in doesn’t make you superior. take it from someone who got into a fancy name school, and who knows many fantastic people who didn’t and crappy people who did.
anyways, good luck with college applications to any current high school students. and to all, good luck with your future educational endeavors!

I really really needed to hear your last point about the value of working hard in high school, even if you don't go to an elite college. With this whole application cycle coming up, the reassurance that my work wasn't worthless, regardless of where I end up, is a huge relief :*)
At the end of the day. No matter what school you go to, you still get the piece of paper at the end.
For me my intermediate is like college just less debt xD
Elite universities and their small undergraduate class sizes are not better than state schools, but they do gatekeep admission to the ruling class. It's more about connections and being in the same class as children of very rich people who have connections. It's a way of enforcing class disparities while maintaining an illusion of meritocracy
this is so helpful! also kinda depressing, we're all gonna die, existence is a prison. but thank u, srsly
"Be yourself" actually doesn't apply to anything well, not just college admissions. Either you're what other people already like, in which case the advice is useless, or else you aren't, and then it's harmful to you. Be yourself as much as circumstances allow, sure, but realize people are generally pretty narrow-minded, and plan accordingly.
I’ve grown up at the university of Florida. I’m a type one diabetic and I’ve been told I should be a dietitian my whole life. It’s just easier when you’re constantly learning about it in every day life just to take care of myself. I’d love to be a dietitian but I don’t know what I’d do if I don’t get into that specific school. I don’t know another school I want to go to. I can’t leave Florida.
In my opinion, college is over hyped. People forget that any degree can get you anywhere . If it becomes too stressful to go to school then something is wrong. I was one of those teens. I was so sad realizing that I couldn’t go to my “dream” school.
Colleges pick whoever they want to whether you meet all the requirements or not. It’s a lottery especially for very well known schools.
I went away and I realized going to a school that was close to home was way easier financially and a lot less stressful. Don’t go away if you know you can’t afford it either . Taking out loans doesn’t solve starving on campus!
Side note: don’t stress about getting into a certain school. As the years go by, you won’t even care about the school and you just want to graduate ! After a certain point you just want to get into your career and move on . I can list more stuff but this comment would be too long lol
Hi, really liked your video! However I felt that you missed a pretty important piece of information. College fit has been shown time and time again to be a better indicator of future success than college name/pedigree.
This calls into question several points made in your video, especially your “don’t be your true authentic self” advice. By being a truer version of yourself, you are working towards a better fit which (assuming future success is the end goal) is for the best.
Feel free to reach out if you would like to discuss this further!
"be yourself" is actually the stupidest thing I've heard as advice for getting into the college you want.
to be honest I’m only really aiming for top tier schools cause it’s one of the few schools that would give me a full paid tuition with the generous amount financial aid they have sormtimes
I'm glad I learned about college admissoms myths before I applied for college glad I didn't get stuck into the ivy league is better and I'm glad I didn't apply to any private school cause all those T20 schools aren't in the areas I love college isn't only about education it matters the location the how the rent is in the area that is what I considered cause I don't like cities and I wouldn't go to a college ever in a massive city
haha, what were the odds that when I clicked on this video it'd be a fellow bruin? Liked your point about admissions these days being arbitrary
I have horrible grades, I’m about to become a junior so I already wasted half of my high school years. Still, watching videos about studying and school, trying to get better…
talks bout Jews, next frame: POLISH …..
im not even american, but hearing those mmakes me sad bc thats how imade my collage applications to turkey as an international student
I thank cosmos that I watched this before I go to college.
Nice Hair!!
As someone who went to one of the best high schools in America, most of what we are taught about education and life is incredibly false. It's just easier than telling kids the truth.
Biggest regret in HS was focusing all my energy on studies and being antisocial. Wish I tried more things and broke out of my shell more. I was #1 in my class but just dropped out of college because I hated it (and the panorama) and I've never been more happy and free in my life. When your life revolves around something that is literally a social construct that doesn't really effect life over all (cough grades) it is the most freeing thing to step back and not be burdened by it. Of course now the only burden I have is being able to pay the bills haha. Also BIG judgement coming from everyone I went to HS. Every time someone asks me "how's college?" I'm like oh I dropped out, and it's like the biggest shock for them. But I'm happy and you have to decide what path is right for you.
as my brother said "don't be yourself, be the best version of yourself"
indian college admission system said "hi"
any advice for someone who wants to transfer to nyu or usc year 1?
Do somebody know where is the pullover from ?
Im in middle school. First year. And already, within the first week, they showed up this “beast mode” video which finished with, “Don’t sleep when youre tired, sleep when youre done.” The video basically just told us that if we didnt spend every minuted going towards success, then we were pathetic and would fail in life. So if anyone else had to watch that, DONT LISTEN TO IT <3
Do you have a video up about starting college search and which country to choose?
My friend said, "Bro, just go to any college you get the same degree anywhere."
As a Spaniard, where most ppl (everyone who's not rich) go to public universities, this sounds like a movie for me
